In the studio is the place to be.

If you visit this site semi-regularly, you may have noticed a lot of changes over the last couple of weeks. It’s all part of my final project for Alec Longstreth’s Professional Practices class at the Center for Cartoon Studies.

Originally, I started designing a basic hub/portfolio at dakotmcfadzean.com, but I quickly realized it was redundant because most of the links directed you back here to my blog. SO! Instead I incorporated what I had into my blog, and set up a blank redirect on dakotamcfadzean.com. This will be the last major overhaul to this site until I get the time/guts to install wordpress and comicpress (or some similar thing) onto dakotamcfadzean.com, thus doing away with this subdomain silliness I’ve gotten myself into.

Anyway, some of the updates include:

  • new page header that matches the look and feel of my business cards and letterhead, incorporating the “drawing every day” ID system/mantra.
  • a new Short Stories section that includes 78 pages of different comics I’ve done over the last couple of years. Some of this content has never been available on this site or in print before, so please check it out.
  • a new Illustration page, which mostly contains the best covers I’ve drawn for Prairie Dog and Planet S over the last three years.
  • a separate section for the Blog. I recently came to realize that it was easy to miss the blog underneath The Dailies on the homepage, so now the blog is accessed through the menu above. Easy!
  • moved my massive Links section to its own page so that it doesn’t trail down the side of every single page.
  • removed all the extra things in the sidebars, including the calendar, which has never properly worked … and I’m pretty sure no one used it anyway.
  • added a watermark to all new images, and many old ones. Not that anyone on the internet has ever posted something without citing its source/creator. That would be mean.
  • removed one of the sidebars to give the site a slightly cleaner look.
  • added Lightbox navigation for the comics and illustration sections.
  • a bunch of other spot images, as well as behind-the-scenes stuff that will hopefully stave off the eventual self-destruct of my site due to all kinds of wordpress/comicpress updating conflicts … until I someday pay someone to fix all this for me.

So, with all these changes, I encourage you to have a look around. Please let me know if you if find any broken links, spelling errors, satanic messages, or secret comics. And there is one secret comic hidden somewhere on the site, with the possibility of more secret comics to come.

Oh, and I hope to add a store when I move back to Canada. Then you can buy physical comics just like in the 1600s or whatever.

Please enjoy.
